What is CInemake?
CINEMAKE produces multicultural experiences with cooking, film night, and archiving the events. Thanks to CINEMAKE, participants will have spontaneous communication to share their own cultural backgrounds.
And thus, CINEMAKE supports the neighborhood and reinforces the identity of the community.

Method
Before jumping to the result, this is the method we used to develop the project. Under the triple diamond structure, the whole process can be divided to these four steps, research co-design, pss design, and prototyping.

Reasearch
In order to thoroughly understand the whole context of this community and organization, we conducted the research through field investigations, several interviews with stakeholders, including the organization and the audiences, literature reviews, and study cases analysis.
I listed some key points of the research in the following strips. Also, you can download the whole research booklet if you are interested in the topic of immigration in Milan, art performance, and community solidarity.

STUDY CASES ANALYSIS
How did it start?
A MULTICULTURAL ZONE
-
Globalization has accelerated the demographic movement
-
In Bovisa and Dergano, a huge industrial area from 19th, these two districts of northern Milan has nearly 25% habitants came from other countries.
-
The foreign communities more present in this area are Chinese, Egyptian, and Filipino communities.

ABOUT NUOVO ARMENIA
-
Nuovo Armenia is a non-profit organization located in Bovisa and Dergano.
-
It aims to create a strong community in the area by their activities with film and music.

They have invited many artists, musicians and filmmakers from all over the world.

Mostly, the participants are Italians.
WHAT WE FOUND

New inhabitants have no confidence to share the culture

Language barrier makes the communication difficult

Low relevance between each event are hard to keep people engaged

The targets are lack of information to participate
WHAT WE EXPECTED

Engage different groups of people in several process

Calling
attention from target audiences

Keep people engaging by impressive experiences
CO-DESIGN
Co-Design is a participatory design process with all the stakeholders, including users, experts, and staff from the organization. With the ideas from the people who will be truly involved in the design, we can make the views more comprehensive and realistic. The ideas will have a higher possibility of being executed.
There was a lockdown when this project came to a co-design process, forcing us to turn the physical workshop into virtual workshops. This challenge allowed us to understand and manage the difference between offline and online sessions.
To have the ethnic diversity, we had...
6 co-design sessions
4 staff from Nuovo Armenia
9 audiences living in Milan from 7 countries
2 shop owners as collaborators
I listed some key points and a summary video of the co-design session in the following strips. Also, you can download the booklet if you are interested in the details.

CO-DESIGN TOOLS

OFFLINE CO-DESIGN

ONLINE CO-DESIGN
SO we had a concept evolution
Thanks to each Co-Design Session we were able to reinforce the starting concept arriving to a new one.
Food as a way to create community
Food as the means to enrich culture understanding throughout the neighbor
Film that accompany others activity / parallel dimension
Film for creating new activities related / integrated dimension
Stories that represent the community variety
Stories that investigate about the community variety
PSS DESIGN
With the insights from co-design, we started to make the concept more solid These service design tools help us defining the details and presenting the design concept.
WHO WILL JOIN CINEMAKE?
-
By analyzing the people we had interviewed and codesigned with, we defined three user types to clarify how these people would join CINEMAKE.
-
With a stakeholder map and user profile, we can get the role and features of each user type in the service.
WHAT CINEMAKE CAN OFFER?
-
In the storyboard, a general flow of participating in the event can be shown.
-
The offering map can present more details about all the elements of this service no matter online or offline, tangible or intangible.
WHERE TO HOLD CINEMAKE?
-
We considered the space of Cinemake and drew a map of the venue to organize each event and where they happen.
HOW DOES CINEMAKE WORK?
-
A system map is a useful tool to understand the relationship of each character in the service.
-
At the same time, a business model canvas can help us manage the service from a business perspective.
-
A service blueprint is a tool for us to understand the whole journey from both the customer and service provider's perspectives.
WHY CINEMAKE IS VALUABLE?
-
The social innovation scanner helped us evaluate the solution with 7 social impact standard.

PROTOTYPING
I made a prototype of the website for a cultural log book. It is an online cloud archive collection and offline commemorative card, which records past activities, provides a channel for people who cannot physically participate in learning about foreign cultures and enhances their willingness to participate in the next event.
